The work of Torch relies heavily on the contribution made by volunteers. There are many rewarding opportunities for Christian service through Torch, working on your own or with others.
Volunteering opportunities have always been an important part of the work of Torch. Volunteers are of great help to the ministry of Torch, but individuals find that the experience of volunteering benefits them significantly too.
Since the lockdown began in March 2020, many of our volunteering opportunities have been on hold. However, as Torch and the world around us begins to open up again, we anticipate more opportunities to become available for new volunteers to come and join us.
We have volunteers across a range of ages and life stages, some who are still working and some who have retired. We also have a large number of volunteers who are blind and partially sighted, who have found that the experience has helped them overcome barriers that they used to face. What is it like to volunteer with Torch? Hear from some of our wonderful volunteers about their experiences.
“I volunteer at Torch because of a long-standing concern for the spiritual as well as the physical welfare of people with sight loss. Torch has always sought to address both these aspects.”
It is important that we take time to ensure that both volunteer and Torch fit well together, that the role is well suited to the volunteer and that they gain a real sense of fulfilment in undertaking these duties. New volunteer applicants will therefore be initially invited to speak with a supervisor and, as appropriate, to visit us to learn more about the work we do.
The opportunities to volunteer at Torch are many and varied so we are happy to talk you through any questions you may have about the roles available.
