Torch is enabling churches across the UK to include people with sight loss in every aspect of church life.
Join our network of churches to access training, advice, resources and to be added to our sight loss friendly church finder. Best of all, it’s all free of charge!
Everyone has the right to a fulfilling spiritual life, but feeling left out or unable to join in at church often means that people stop attending altogether. They then miss out not just on regular services, but social activities, a sense of community and a feeling of human connection. Churches may not realise that anyone in their congregation or local community has sight loss, and if they do they may not know how to provide support. Sight Loss Friendly Church is here to help.
If you’re living with sight loss or know someone who is, we have an easy way to find a church which will offer you a warm welcome and work towards meeting your needs.

Torch Trust can help your church to become more aware of how to support people with sight loss. We can help you become more accessible and more able to confidently engage everyone in your church, and those who would like to join.
Every 6 minutes someone in the UK starts to lose their sight.
Living with sight loss in the UK presents a unique set of challenges for individuals. Adjusting to a world without full vision demands resilience, support, and adaptability. For those affected, daily activities require thoughtful navigation, often with the help of assistive technologies, guide dogs, or low vision aids. Torch offers a range of support services, such as training for churches, accessible literature, and online and in person events, fostering a sense of belonging and community among visually impaired people.
Attitude is the most important thing about being sight loss friendly. In any congregation, it can be hard to meet everyone’s needs at the same time and the same is true with sight loss.
When planning church events, services or communications think to yourself, “What can we do to include blind or partially sighted people?”
Approach individuals and ask what would be best for them.
Make changes, adapt room layouts or use Torch resources so that everyone with sight loss feels included in your church.
-Michael
Sight Loss Friendly Churches will have free access to Torch’s advice and guidance, the opportunity to book personal consultations or workshops for your church and access the Torch catalogue of accessible Christian literature. Your church will then feature on our map to encourage people with sight loss in your area to your congregation.
You’ll also receive a free members’ pack with a booklet, poster and window sticker for your church! Best of all, Torch does not charge for any of these fantastic services.
