        Head of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications

        For over 60 years, Torch Trust has sought to care for and support blind and partially sighted people by helping them encounter Jesus, grow in their Christian faith and thrive in Christian community. We have ambitious plans to help more people in more places in more ways and need someone to join our amazing team who will bring fresh ideas and expertise to help us raise more support and increase our profile. As a senior and key member of our team you will report to the CEO and be expected to contribute more widely to the life and development of Torch as a member of the Leadership Team.

        About the role

        The purpose of this role is therefore:

        • To grow Torch’s income from all sources including individuals, groups, churches, grant-making trusts etc in order to support Torch’s work
        • To present Torch’s ministry to supporters, other organisations and the general public in clear and compelling ways that increase commitment to pray, volunteer, partner and give.

        We’re looking for someone who shares our passion in serving people who are marginalised and has the following characteristics:

        • Ambitious with a flexible approach to work and excited by the opportunity to shape the future of fundraising, marketing and communications at Torch Trust.
        • Demonstrable experience in fundraising roles, across a number of disciplines, especially trusts and individual giving with a good understanding of fundraising regulations and best practice.
        • Sound understanding of what motivates individual and organisational donors to support faith-based charities.
        • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively with a range of different stakeholders including volunteers
        • Able to fully support Torch’s values as a committed and practising Christian with an active personal relationship with God.
        • Confident in I.T. and a range of business systems and processes.
        • Proactive, creative, and able to use initiative.
        • Well organised, can work independently, be able to plan ahead and organise time effectively.

        We can be flexible on location but the successful candidate must be able to get to Torch House in market Harborough ideally once a week but at least twice per month and be able to travel to promotional events, meetings etc

        Role requirements

        Torch is an overtly Christian organisation. This is a role with an occupational requirement of being a practising Christian, due to being a member of the Leadership Team and the importance of engaging with Torch’s largely Christian supporters and representing Torch externally.

         

        Main Purpose

        1. To grow Torch’s income from all sources including individuals, groups, churches, grant-making trusts etc in order to support Torch’s work
        2. To present Torch’s ministry to supporters, other organisations and the general public in clear and compelling ways that increase commitment to pray, volunteer, partner and give.

         

        Main Duties and responsibilities:

        Fundraising

        • To develop a fundraising strategy and annual plan that will support the implementation of Torch’s overall Strategy and Annual Plan.
        • Build and manage relationships with appropriate trusts, foundations, churches and other funders.
        • Update and analyse donor, funders and trust data.
        • Work with staff running services to identify areas which might attract grant funding, investigate suitable grant makers, coordinate the development of proposals and lead the engagement with those identified and seek grant funding for appropriate projects within Torch.
        • Manage, grow and continue developing Torch’s committed giving product ‘Torch Bearers’
        • Develop regular and one-off fundraising appeals and monitor their impact ensuring lessons are learned and applied to future plans.
        • Develop Torch’s approach to promoting legacies and gifts in memory.
        • Explore, develop and implement as appropriate a programme of events fundraising and community fundraising in keeping with Torch’s style of ministry.

         

        Marketing

        • Manage and develop Torch’s social media channels ensuring a steady flow of relevant information that increases brand awareness and engagement.
        • Attend or lead, as necessary at events and exhibitions to promote Torch.
        • Develop flexible supporter pathways with a clear pattern of touch points appropriate to each group of supporters.

         

        Communications

        • Work with colleagues and contractors to develop and deliver excellent communication materials to keep supporters engaged and informed about Torch’s work.
        • In coordination with colleagues, develop an annual plan for supporter engagement and development in line with Torch’s strategy and annual priorities.
        • Manage the process of thanking all donors for their support.
        • Manage the output of information to prayer supporters to keep them well informed and committed to praying for Torch’s ministry
        • Coordinate and support the work of other staff as they engage with existing and potential supporters ensuring that supporters have a coherent experience in their engagement with Torch.
        • Write reports as required for donors and other key stakeholders.
        • Ensure that Torch’s website is presenting the charity in the right way and keep it regularly updated with news items and other relevant developments.

         

        Other duties

        • Contribute to the leadership of the charity through membership and input to the Leadership Team.
        • Contribute to the prayer and worship life of Torch, getting involved in regular and periodic meetings.
        • Undertake such other duties as the CEO may from time to time determine in keeping with the overall aim of this area of ministry.

         

        Person Specification:

        • Display characteristics such as being proactive, creative, and able to use initiative. Furthermore, you will be reliable, always on time with a committed work ethic, always looking for the next task.
        • It is essential that you are well organised, can work independently, be able to plan ahead and organise time effectively.

        Contract and Work Pattern

        This is a permanent contract and preferably full time although some reduction in hours may be considered depending on candidate experience and circumstances. The working pattern will be varied and may include weekend / evening work as needed, occasional overnight stays during events and possible attendance at Torch holidays.
        This role can be based at Torch House in Market Harborough or undertaken as a remote worker. In the latter case, regular visits to Torch House will be required to ensure sufficient engagement with the wider team.
